A Day of Words, Wonder, and Welcome!

Shikshantar Hosts the Albert Barrow Memorial Creative Writing Event, 2026

On Monday, 13th July 2026, Shikshantar once again welcomed young writers from across the region for the Albert Barrow Memorial All India Inter School Creative Writing Event (both Category I and Category II), held under the aegis of CISCE, Kolkata. Shikshantar was once again given the opportunity to hold space for words, excitement, and the quiet courage it takes to put one's thoughts on paper.

11 children participated collectively across Haryana, Uttar Pradesh, and the Delhi-NCR region in both categories. The topic was announced nationwide at 9:30 a.m., and something had already shifted in the air—the kind of stillness that comes right before young minds begin to wander inward.

A supervisor carefully guided every step, from reading the rules to the final sealing of scripts, ensuring that even amid the freedom of expression, every protocol was honoured with utmost care.

But what stayed with everyone, however, was not just the writing—it was the warmth that surrounded the event.Visiting students and accompanying facilitators experienced Shikshantar as an unhurried, welcoming, and comfortable space where participation felt natural and encouraged. More than anything, it is this feeling that we hope young writers carried home with them—the sense that, for a few hours, an unfamiliar place felt a little like their own.

As we now look forward to hosting Category II of the Frank Anthony Memorial All India Debate, we carry with us the same gentle spirit that guides our spaces. It is our belief that when young voices are given room to think aloud, they learn to speak with both courage and care.
