Sports Retreat - Classes I-IV
“The important thing in life is not the triumph but the struggle; the essential thing is not to have conquered but to have fought well.”
- Pierre de Coubertin
On a bright and vibrant morning, the Primary School came together for the Sports Retreat with the children eager to share their skills honed in Oorja sessions every day. The Sports Retreat at Shikshantar is not just about running races or playing games. It is about discovering joy in movement, learning to collaborate and finding the courage to try.
Through their energetic movements and creative formations, the children practised calisthenic exercises that have developed their sense of teamwork and enhanced their agility and flexibility. Displaying their coordination and discipline, the students went through a series of ‘yogasanas’, human pyramids and gymnastic exercises.
Through age-appropriate experiences, children continue to strengthen their physical abilities while developing gross and fine motor skills. This progresses through a growing involvement in ball games in Classes III and IV, which the children presented through drills with the football and basketball. The growing familiarity with their physical limits is further supplemented by complex jump rope exercises, refining their body balance and sense of rhythm.
Before moving on to track events, we also took a moment to celebrate the recent triumphs of our Middle and Senior students in Inter-School Competitions. The track races, relays and hurdle races let the children cut loose and the parents joined in the activities as well, experiencing the same delights as their little ones.
To top off a refreshing afternoon, the children took home mementoes in the form of coriander plants so they can nourish their love of nature and cultivate a greater sense of care. The day was a valuable experience for the children in immersing themselves into the spirit of enthusiastic participation and to share with their loved ones the simple joy of physical activity.
