shik’MUN 2025: Summer Edition

The Summer edition of Shikshantar Model United Nations Conference was held on 24th and 25th April, 2025, open to participation for students from Classes IX to XII. Shik’MUN 2025 was, for the first time in years, an inter-school event, welcoming delegates from many other schools as well.

The Organising Committee, heads of International Press and members of the Executive Board - comprising Shikshantar students as well as students from other schools - worked tirelessly both behind the scenes and on centre stage to ensure the success of the event.

Each of the seven committees featured infectious enthusiasm, enriching debate, moments of incredulity and passion. The United Nations General Assembly discussed the destabilisation of the Middle East, with focus on the US-led invasion of Iraq after failed diplomatic negotiation.

The United Nations Human Rights Council focused upon the agenda ‘Ensuring Accountability for Violations of International Humanitarian Law in the Gaza Conflict, Focusing on Attacks on Humanitarian Convoys and Threats to Journalists.’

The United Nations Security Council deliberated on ‘Nations Planning to Militarize the Arctic Region’ with emphasis on the growing Russian presence in the region and the impact on international tensions. The head of delegate affairs participated as a delegate in this committee, raising the level of debate.

FIFA, a unique and refreshing committee, addressed ‘the use of football as a tool for sports-washing with special emphasis on Middle Eastern countries including Qatar, Saudi Arabia and Azerbaijan to mask political, human rights and governance issues such as migrant labour exploitation and media suppression.’

The All India Political Parties Meet handled the issue of the 2002 Godhra Riots, with emphasis on alleged incendiary actions and negligence of the Gujarat Government.

In the United States Senate, the committee debated on Current Immigration Policies and Treatment towards Illegal Immigrants, even electing a new President of the United States.

The Continuous Crisis Committee had a classified agenda which was revealed only days before the conference opened. This committee featured delegates representing new nations like Scandinatia(made up of the Scandinavian countries) and Nipon (a united Japan and South Korea), conceptualised and created by our very own Executive Board.

The International Press, with its three organs: photography, journalism and caricatures, diligently documented conference proceedings, their work culminating in the publishing of two newsletters detailing the events of Shik’MUN ’25.
