Shik’MUN 2023: Summer Edition
The summer edition of the Shikshantar Model United Nations conference, Shik’MUN 2023 took place on 27th and 28th of April, 2023 for the students of Classes IX to XII. The Executive Board and the Organising Committee comprised students of Classes XI and XII. Aishani Chawla and Dhruv Sengupta as the Secretary General and Director General respectively oversaw all the proceedings.
The UN General Assembly put their heads together to discuss their agenda, ‘Mitigating Political Crisis in Military-Controlled Nations’. This committee was chaired by Rajas Sharmaand Aarav Mathur as the Chairpersons, Aahel Chatterji as the Vice-Chairperson and Ira Mishra as the Rapporteur. The sessions consisted of intense discussions and the Secretary General, Aishani Chawla, participated as Ukraine to raise the level of the debate.
The UN Security Councilhad a classified agenda this time and it was released only a day before the conference, leaving the participating delegates very little time to research, thus making it even more challenging. Chaired by Kompal Grover, with Shachi Teotia as the Vice-Chairperson, the committee discussed the Corfu Channel Crisis. Tejaswi Singh was the Rapporteur in the Committee. The AIPPM, with the agenda of Gujarat 2002 Riots, was chaired by Agastya Tiwari as the Speaker, Adya Singh Chauhan as the Deputy Speaker and Ritvik Sinha as the Rapporteur. The committee was vociferous, comprising loud and lively debate on the agenda.
Three other unconventional committees were: NATO which was a continuous crisis committee with a classified agenda, US Senatedeliberating the Health Care Act of 2017 and Congress of Vienna discussing the state of Europe after Napoleon’s Defeat. The Executive Board of the Committees comprised students of Class XII, namely, Anuvrat Patil, Tanya Malhotra, Arav Chablani, Ananya Jain, Saket Bharadia, Vivaan Lunkad and Jayesh Gupta.
Along with the above, the conference had one of the largestInternational Pressteam ever in a Shik’MUN conference. The IP Team was headed by Tanveer Singh, with Bhavika Rawat, Prisha Raj and Zoya Sethi as Heads of Photography, Journalism and Creative Journalism respectively. Samara Theeng led the Design Team. The IP Team published the proceedings of the two days in the newsletter The Daily Caucus.
