Rakshabandhan Celebrations 2026
The celebration of Rakshabandhan in Shikshantar was an experience about affection for all beings and an appreciation for every little thing that makes life joyful. The children came together to experience the deeper meaning of what love and care means to them.
Extending the festival far beyond their families, the children of Sprouting Seeds, Nursery, and Kindergarten shared about the people who they hold close to their hearts. They thoughtfully expressed their affection and concern for nature, all beings, and even the materials they engage with - sketch pens, colour pencils, crayons and books. As the experience unfolded, the children’s free expressions on ‘The Circle of Love and Care’ reflected warmth as something that connects us all - “When I grow a plant and I check it every day, I show care”, “Earth पूरी love and care की World है, उसमें ही तो सब कुछ है...”, “दादू को दवाई देता हूँ, वो भी तो care है...”, “ Didi हमें सिखाती हैं वो भी care है...”
The little ones celebrated Rakshabandhan, merrily swaying to songs of friendship - ‘ठुमक ठुमक कर आया भालू, हाथ में लेकर राखी...’, ‘Friends are like flowers ...’ Seema Didi took the thought forward with the story of ‘The Rainbow Fish’ that emphasises ‘they can be who they are, you can be what you are....’ through the Rainbow Fish’s friendship with the wise octopus and all the other fish.
Extending the bonds of kindness to nature around us the Primary School children celebrated the monsoon season that brings with it greenery and many tiny friends. Singing ‘देखो कड़क कड़क बिजली कड़के, देखो गरज गरज बादल बरसे...’ and ‘Count on Me...’, they gave voice to the invisible thread that ties us together through kind actions, words and gestures. Minoti Didi asked the children to reflect on the significance of Rakshabandhan as a festival of protection and not just a bond between siblings. Their lives are also about careful attention from everything around them from parents to the shady trees to the didis and bhaiyas. While the tradition of tying rakhis comes around only once a year, the gratitude to all beings should never fade away.
Children from all the groups collaboratively celebrated sharing and co-existence. Their expression portrayed a world where every individual is free to be themselves while remaining connected to and caring for one another.
