Class I explores 'Khana Khazana'
As part of yet another experience outside the formal classroom space, the children of Class I explored the theme of 'Khana Khazana'. They delved into the fascinating world of food and built an understanding of the different components of food- Go, Grow, and Glow- the importance of a balanced meal and the journey food takes from plants to our plates.
The theme came alive with Class I children visiting the Club Patio Kitchen for an immersive learning experience. During this visit, they had the opportunity to interact with the Chef, observe the process of food preparation and gain hands-on knowledge about where the food in their school comes from.
For a deeper experience, the children engaged in an interactive session with the chef, learning about the various stages of food preparation. The ever curious children wanted to know - Who cooks the delicious meals and how do chefs decide what food to prepare each day? Are the dishes Go, Grow, and Glow foods? Where do the vegetables and fruits used in cooking come from? Who is responsible for washing and cutting the vegetables? and many more questions patiently answered by the chef to the satisfaction of the children.
While exploring the kitchen, children were absolutely wide eyed and amazed to see the very large utensils used to cook food for the entire school, especially those jumbo burners with huge flames. Later they enjoyed a specially prepared snack served to them at the club.
The visit concluded with some free play time in the club's lawns, allowing children to unwind and reflect on their experience. It was a hands-on exposure to the cooking of the food they eat at the school, the nutrition it provides, and the people who prepare their meals, widening the classroom learning with real-life experience.
