Our Solar System - Class II
The adventurous journey to explore ‘Our Solar System’ began with a fascinating visit to the solar
plaza in our school. Exploring and identifying planets in the solar plaza was like a fun game of
treasure hunt.
It further transformed them into little space explorers who delved into the unique
characteristics of each planet. The children researched about their sizes, compositions, colour,
distance from the sun and collated the facts in the solar system booklets. Integrating language
skills with science, the children of Class II made tricky riddles and quizzed each other to guess
the celestial body from the description.
Immersing into the experience the children extended their learning through the art experience
of creating miniature solar systems, carefully positioning each planet in its orbit using pop-ups.
They wore their creative cap and went on an imaginary space trip, collating their understanding
in a write-up ‘The Planet I Would Like to Visit.’
The theme was filled with discovery, creativity, questioning and appreciation for the wonders of
our solar system. Children further deepened their understanding when they visited the Nehru
