Nurturing connections through creative expressions
A child’s mind is like a sponge, soaking in everything around them. Let’s fill it with love, kindness, and wisdom - Anonymous
Our community outreach programme periodically connects with other organisations and schools to interact with students from varying cultures and economic backgrounds. Recently, we facilitated an interactive session with the children of Nav Abhiyan at our Registered office-28, Jor Bagh, New Delhi 110003, to build newer connections with self and with each other through games, a story, songs and an art-based experience.
The children arrived in high spirits, eager to see the surprises the morning held in store for them. After bringing their energies together through chanting ‘ॐ’, the children channelled their enthusiasm into creative movements imitating their favourite animals with Shashi Bhaiya. Playing games like ‘Change the House’ and ‘Fruit Game’, they squealed with delight as they ran around the space.
Their excitement was infectious and carried over to singing songs like ‘Hello Hello...’ and ‘जंगल में दो शरे...’ with expressive movements accompanied by the guitar. Continuing the theme of animals that the children enjoyed connecting with, the children settled down to hear the narration of the story ‘झूलो, झूलो, झूलो’, making animal sounds each time a new animal appeared and climbed onto the swing.
The paper finger puppets used by the facilitators to narrate the story greatly fascinated the children. Working with art materials given to them, they made animal puppets of their choice - “दीदी, मेरे elephant का नाम घपरु है...”, “मेरी butterfly को watermelon खाना बहुत पसदं है...”
Since the children loved engaging through physical activity, afternoon approached on the beat of children’s feet to songs like ‘D-d-d-d-dolphin...’ and ‘animals in the jungle when there’s nobody around...’. The incredibly stimulating experience closed with the children giving each member of the team handmade bookmarks and paper fans.
