New parent orientation -2024-25
A new academic session begins shortly.
New beginnings herald the start of journeys and the promise of long-lasting relationships. The new parents who joined us for an orientation on 23rd March ‘24 were initiated into what it means to be a ‘Shikshantar parent’. The school philosophy, methodologies of teaching and the ‘why we do what we do’ behind our practices were shared with them for a start.
A short skit presented by didis and bhaiyas from pre-primary, took the parents through the curriculum in early years, with compassion and sensitivity towards different learning paces, touched many a chord in the hearts of the audience. Senior team members of the school shared in detail about ‘Education’ and all that it encompasses when looked at with a broader lens. This opened the audience to new learnings and growth, not just for their children but also for them.
Among the transparent practices of the school, an interaction with the school’s alumni and parents of children still studying, was also arranged. The range of questions included ‘inclusivity of a new student in grade 11’ to ‘coping with the demands of a competitive outside world when brought up in a non-competitive environment’. They also showed curiosity in understanding, what was for them utopian, the practice of a non-examination assessment system till grade 7. The school team brought the session to an end by singing the school song ‘छू मतंर’.
The new parents left with renewed faith in the choice of school for their young one. They also went back feeling ready for the demands that this decision of theirs entails for them, being curious and in readiness for unlearning and learning in the days to come.
