Food chain and Ecosystem - Class V

"Who Ate All That Up?" A story on the food chain was a great start for the students to bring the concept of the cyclic nature of food consumption in a fun way and to the theme "Interdependence of living beings: plants and animals." Students could very well relate to the natural cycle of consumption, the flow of energy and nutrients through a well planned ecosystem of producers and consumers and how every bit gets consumed as part of the ‘Food chain’.

At the core of it, it led to realising that Waste doesn't exist in the natural world. In nature, everything gets recycled in the ecosystem where plants and animals rely on each other in a delicate balance.

Through engaging activities, the students explored this idea in depth, beginning with the topic and learnt how each organism plays a role in sustaining and understanding the relationships that bind the natural world together.

On nature walks, children observed the complex connections between different species. With this newfound knowledge, they created their own food chain models, visually illustrating the feeding relationships within the ecosystem. Through many hands-on experiences, our children gained a deeper appreciation for the harmony of nature and the importance of sustainability.

They gained an understanding of the relationship between living things and went on to create food chain models that illustrated the feeding relationships and energy flow within the ecosystem.
