The vibrant winter harvest festival of ‘Lohri’ that marks the end of the coldest days of winter and the arrival of warmer, longer days was celebrated at Shikshantar on a bright sunny morning in Nandanam with the entire school team.
Gathering around a bonfire in traditional attire, everyone danced with pure enjoyment to Punjabi folk songs like धुन्नी लोहड़ी दी जलाइये...’, ‘सब नू लोहरी दी वदाई होवे...’ and ‘सुन्दर मुंदरिये...’ in an expression of joy, gratitude and community spirit. The rhythmic, powerful beat of the dhol was infectious, compelling everyone to join in the festivities. As they danced away, the team offered मूंगफली, रेवड़ी and maize popcorns to the flames as a symbol of the Sun god in prayers for a successful harvest.
The day was also a rare opportunity for our senior team members to visit the grassy sunlit lawns of Nandanam. Creating cherished memories around the warm bonfire, the team strengthened their bonds under the winter sun.
