Independence Day Celebration

The Shikshantar family came together to grace another morning of Independent India. Our children relate Independence Day as India’s birthday. The week was filled with celebration and varied experiences around cohesion, art and history for children from all classes.
‘Unity in Diversity’ project experience was an endeavour to understand the importance of cohesion and teamwork maintaining their Independence in the form of freedom of thoughts and ideas at the same time. Class IV participated in an interesting activity to work in small groups for exploring paper folding art - each child folded the paper and left it at a point for another child to take it ahead into a collective illustration. It was a beautiful activity of taking each other's work forward adding their own individual touch to bring together the group's piece of art. Similarly, children identified ‘Beehive’, ‘Ant hills’, ‘Colours in the Rainbow’ to observe collaboration and cohesion in ‘nature’ leading to excellence.
On Independence Day, Class VI took a theme on ' Independence Day' - ‘Swadhinta Ke rang' and all the activities which were experienced through the week including art and write up on Freedom, were a part of the celebration. The students decided to give a closure of their work by displaying it on the big board around the school.
The children mesmerised us by exhibiting their talents through their performance. The day commenced by unfurling the national flag followed by singing our national anthem and national song. This year the children portrayed the lives of 'Unsung Heroes ' of our country who contributed to India's struggle for freedom. They celebrated the lives of those ‘Unsung Heroes’ through captivating poetry and an enchanting skit.
Our young patriots also filled the air with awe and amazement through their precise dance movements holding the tri-coloured cloth/ dupatta to form our National Flag. The event was concluded by the melodious songs sung by our children to sustain the spirit of Independent Nation and grade IV children reciting their own version and understanding of the famous Poem by Rabindra Nath Tagore, ‘Where the Mind is without Fear....’
