How Waste and Watts came to life!
The Environment Committee is constantly working towards finding ways to engage our student community in meaningful ways towards environment-friendly and sustainable ways of living. Think. Switch. Save. and SegreBin are the newest initiatives of the committee, born after a lot of brainstorming sessions and discussions within the Environment Committee.
The committee members, students of Class XI, wanted to find practical ways to make our school more sustainable, not just in theory but through small, visible actions that everyone could be part of. After several meetings and a lot of data collection in collaboration with the admin team, the student volunteers realized how much electricity could be saved every day if the lights and fans were not left running unnecessarily. That’s when Think. Switch. Save. took shape, an initiative to build energy consciousness by encouraging mindful electricity use, turning off unused appliances and tracking energy wastage.
The committee members also observed that a significant amount of paper waste accumulated every week, much of it still reusable. This led to the creation of SegreBin, an initiative aimed at reducing paper wastage. Large cardboard boxes have been placed at strategic points around the school to collect clean scrap paper, such as old worksheets and rough notes. The collected paper will later be sent to organizations for recycling and optimal use.
To ensure wider participation, the committee also conducted presentations to engage and inspire their juniors to join the effort. Together, these initiatives reflect our student-led efforts to create awareness, take responsibility, and move towards a more mindful and sustainable school environment.
