Frank Anthony Memorial Debate 2026
It was a special moment for Shikshantar as we hosted the preliminary round of the Frank Anthony Memorial All India Debate for the first time since 2018. The debate has a long tradition of being an important forum for shaping young voices, encouraging students to engage thoughtfully with complex ideas, articulate their perspectives, and listen to diverse viewpoints.
Representing 5 schools in and around Gurgaon, students from Classes IX and X debated the topic - ‘Ecotourism is more harmful than beneficial in practice’. Once the topic was revealed at 10:00 am sharp across the country, the participants were given an hour for brainstorming and researching to form eloquent arguments. The debate was initiated at 11:10 am with a commemoration and an introduction of the judges.
In a spirited round of debating, each student put forth their unique take on the topic. The rebuttals were riveting as participants put forth compelling questions and defended their stances. An audience of Class IX students from our debating pool found the experience valuable in their own drive towards critical thinking, confident oration and the skills of persuasion.
At the same time, our students represented Shikshantar at the debate in Scottish High and Holy Child School, winning Best Speaker, Best Runner-up and Best Team. With Stage III of the competition coming up, the team is looking forward to more enriching experiences to add to their debating skills.
