Buddha Within Me - Class II
For Buddha Purnima, Class II children explored the theme ‘Buddha Within Me’. They began with the ‘ओम मणि पद्मेहम..’ chant and morning ‘Circle Time’ discussions on Buddha's life, helping them connect with their own inner goodness.
Through ‘The Swan Story’, they learned the values of kindness and protecting life. ‘The Quiet Mind Story’ opened the minds of the children to the importance of patience, mindfulness, and inner calm. These narratives helped the children shift from a self-centered mindset to community awareness. Reflecting on their daily actions, the children went on to share their thoughts through creative expressions - ‘I see kindness in me when I help someone when they fall down’, ‘I become Buddha when I am gentle to the Earth by not stomping on it.’
Based on personal experiences, the students created a ‘Word Web’ of values like honesty (truthfulness), giving (generosity), happiness for others (joy), balance (equanimity), peace, honesty, and generosity. A visit to the school stupa reinforced their discovered sense of calm and compassion, helping them find the Buddha within themselves.
