3rd Parent Open House - Classes I, II & III
As children prepare to step into a new grade, it is a natural time to reflect on their progress and
gear up for the academic transition ahead. Our 3rd Parent Open House served as a collaborative
bridge between home and school, specifically deep diving into the psychosocial development of
our growing learners.
For our Class I parents, the session- led by Seema Didi - focused on Erik Erikson’s theory of
psychosocial development. Through brainstorming and reflection, parents explored the five
stages of growth, learning how navigating these early milestones builds ‘ego strength’ and a
resilient sense of self.
Parents worked in small groups to tackle real-world scenarios, such as responding to a child’s
endless ‘why’ and fostering a sense of ownership in their learning journeys or a deep dive into
how labelling affects a child’s self-belief and the long-term impact of environmental trust. The
session concluded with a powerful visualization exercise, where parents shared nostalgic
childhood experiences to create a ‘Word Web’ of modern coping strategies.
Class II and III parents joined an insightful session with Dr. Manish Samnani, an Occupational
Therapy expert. Dr. Samnani addressed the unique challenges of raising the ‘phone generation’,
specifically highlighting the ‘dopamine trap’ created by social media algorithms.
Dr. Samnani emphasized the need to move children away from the ‘swipe-and-reward’ cycle
toward the satisfaction found in sustained, meaningful effort. The session explored how modern
technology can lead to impulsive behaviour and increased anxiety, offering a deeper look into
the evolving student psyche. To foster patience and introspection, parents were encouraged to
help children exercise executive skills through goal-setting and ‘messy play’ activities that
engage all the senses and promote emotional grounding.
This Open House reaffirmed our commitment to working closely with parents to support the
fast-growing needs of our children.
