The 3rd Parent Open House interaction for Kindergarten groups was held on 2nd March ‘24.
This final Open House of the academic session 2023-2024 held poignancy for our Kindergarten parents. After the children have been in the cocooned environment of Preprimary block for the last 2-3 years, it becomes for them, a ‘letting go’ into the wider school space of Shikshantar. They are seeking assurance of consistency in school practices and learning environment.
The Open House interaction began with sharing of the curricular goals for Kindergarten. Parents reflected on the shifts they had observed in their children and through the displayed goals were able to draw linkages between their observations and the area of growth mentioned in the goals. This reflective exercise was facilitated through sharing a brief excerpt from the book ‘Totto-Chan’. It helped them widen their understanding of a child’s world, his/her dedication to a purpose and their role as parents in supporting this single-mindedness.
In the next part of the Open House interaction, the parents visited Primary school premises. A session devoted to the transition into grade 1 was facilitated by didis and bhaiyas. They received clarity as well as reassurance on the continuity maintained in following key school practices. Their questions were answered and concerns were addressed. They went back looking forward to the new academic session, ready to receive the fresh learnings involved, both for them and for their child.
